Our vision for the Children’s Hospital is to develop a centre of excellence and provide affordable healthcare in the region. We have always held the notion that sick children should be cared for by trained pediatricians providing quality care. We will continue to strive to achieve this endeavor.
Our experienced pediatric resuscitation team deals with emergencies and trauma in the resuscitation bays of the main hospital A&E. This provides easy access to radiology and theatres.
The Casualty is open 24 hours to provide rapid care for walk-in patients. The health and well-being of children is very important to us. At our Well Baby Centre, patients get expert advice and support as well as all the important health checks. Our wellness check-up will involve continual assessment for children’s growth and development as well as ensure that all necessary immunizations are provided at the Vaccination Centre. If required, patients may be referred to our various Specialist Clinics.
We are proud to offer an environment that is child and family friendly. All our pediatric rooms are en-suites specifically designed to encourage parents to stay with their child in order to ensure their comfort and decrease anxiety. Highly skilled pediatric doctors and nurses offer 24 hour 7 days a week care on the wards.
Our modern 8 bed unit is fully equipped to care for critically ill children by a team made up of a pediatric intensivist, a neonatologist, and critical care trained nursing staff. The ICU is fully equipped with the latest ventilators providing invasive and non-invasive ventilation as well as bedside and centralized monitoring systems. Patients may be transferred to our PICU from Maternity, Casualty, Wards, or post-operatively should they require critical care.
The Department of Pediatrics has been involved with several CSR activities over the past 2 years.
We have worked with two international congenital heart teams, Medical Education and Aid to Kenya (MEAK) /Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Healing Little Hearts/Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Together we have had 4 missions so far, successfully performing 35 open heart operations and 22 interventional cardiac repairs for needy children at no cost to their families. We hope to continue these missions at least 3 times a year. Our hospital’s pediatric ENT team regularly visits schools in the area offering free ENT advice and we are looking forward to starting up a cleft palate repair program in the near future.
