Job Title: Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
Department: Radiology
Location: M.P. Shah Hospital

Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to lead and coordinate our radiation protection programme within the Radiology Department. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting a strong safety culture, and protecting patients, staff, and the public from unnecessary radiation exposure.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Radiation Safety Officer will:

1. Lead the hospital’s radiation safety and regulatory compliance programme.

2. Serve as the primary liaison with the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA).

3. Monitor radiation exposure, dosimetry programmes, and staff licensing compliance.

4. Coordinate safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

5. Develop and deliver radiation and MRI safety training to staff.

6. Oversee quality control processes for protective equipment and radiation-generating devices.

7. Maintain audit-ready documentation, records, licences, and safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications, Regulatory & Legal Requirements
Essential
· Diploma or Degree in Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, Radiation Physics, or a related field

· Registration and valid licensing with the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA) and the Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK)

· At least two (2) years’ experience in a diagnostic imaging environment

· Strong knowledge of radiation protection principles (ALARA), MRI safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Desirable
· Radiation Safety Officer or radiation protection certification

· Experience supporting accreditation and regulatory inspections

· Experience conducting staff training or managing e-learning programmes

· Strong planning and organisational abilities

· Integrity, professionalism, and a collaborative approach
