Job Title: Dental Assistant

Job Purpose
To assist the Dentist in performing treatment for patients in restorative dentistry or oral surgery.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Dental Administration – Assist the dentist in the administration of treatment at the dental chairside as required by the dentist.

2. Infection Control – Maintain a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures.

3. Documentation – Document dental care services by maintaining patients’ records.

4. Materials – Provide materials by selecting, mixing and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth.

5. Emergencies – Help the dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply.

6. Patient Instruction – Provide postoperative instructions as directed by the dentist, together with dental hygiene, oral health care and plaque control programmes for patients.

7. Laboratory Records – Document lab procedures, ensure follow up on results, and record treatment information in patient records.

Key Performance Indicators
· Number of procedures (outpatients) done

· Patient turnaround time

· Revisit rate of patients

· Compliance with standard operating procedures and protocols

Minimum Qualifications, Regulatory & Legal Requirements
· Diploma in Community Oral Health

· A minimum of 0 – 2 years’ experience in a dental clinic

· Continuous Professional Development (CPD) required
