Starting therapy can feel intimidating—but taking that first step is already a powerful investment in yourself.
If you’ve booked your first session, feeling nervous, uncertain, or even skeptical is completely normal. Here’s what those first 45–60 minutes typically look like:
1. A Safe, Confidential Space
Your therapist will begin by explaining confidentiality—what you share stays private, except in specific safety situations. This creates the trust needed for meaningful healing.
2. Your Story, Your Pace
You’ll talk about what brought you in:
- What challenges are you facing?
- How have you been feeling?
- What support are you seeking?
There’s no pressure to have everything figured out. You can be emotional, uncertain, or unsure where to begin—that’s okay.
3. Building the Right Connection
Therapy works best when you feel comfortable. Your first session is also a chance to ask questions, understand your therapist’s approach, and decide if it feels like the right fit.
4. Creating a Path Forward
Together, you’ll begin identifying goals—whether it’s reducing anxiety, processing trauma, improving relationships, or building resilience.
How to Prepare
- Be honest
- Write down key concerns
- Give yourself space afterward
