Visit by Health Cabinet Secretary

Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Sicily Kariuki, on Tuesday March 6, 2018 visited M.P Shah Hospital as part of her tour to health stakeholders following her appointment by his Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The CS arrived at the hospital together with senior government officials, including Dr. Jackson Kioko who is the ministry’s Director of Medical Services, and were received by the senior hospital management led by Chief Operating Officer Ms.Toseef Din.

She met the hospital’s board Chairman Dr. Manoj Shah and Vice Chairman Dr. Manilal Dodhia along with board members and heads of various departments with whom they discussed pertinent issues surrounding the field of health including Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the escalating trend of Cancer in Kenya.

She explained the government’s commitment to promoting healthcare through formulation of policies that would boost the performance of the sector. She also appreciated the contribution of the hospital in providing quality and affordable healthcare, and encouraged the hospital   to partner with the public sector to steer government’s key agenda on health.

Board Chairman Dr. Manoj Shah said the hospital had made strides in making healthcare more accessible through its expansion plans within the premises and opening of an outpatient clinic in CBD. He also underscored the need to cut down the number of patients flying out of the country to seek medical care.

The CS later visited the Accidents and Emergency Center, Radiology Department, and ICUs for both adults and pediatrics. She affirmed that the equipment and technology in the hospital would provide patients the opportunity to get critical medical care. The hospital, through its Accidents and Emergency Center, had in among other medical programs, conducted free emergency medical treatment to victims of Westgate Mall attack in September 2013 and is involved in several Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
