REUSABLE SHOE COVERS

Since MP Shah, hospital became United Nation Global Signatory, a lot of innovation ideas have been implemented in the hospital.

In effort to support Sustainable Development Goal 11 on creating sustainable cities and communities, the hospital is finding a lot of joy in creating green spaces in all aspects of healthcare

Over the past few months, we realized that we were using many disposable shoe covers in CSSD and theatre leading to increased generation of infectious waste and cost to the patients. An idea of making reusable shoe covers from condemned hospital linen was born.

Laundry manager was tasked with cleaning and disinfecting condemned linen. Sorting was done after that and the worn out linen was separated. The selected linen was taken to our hospital tailor for stitching and this has reduced overall cost. 1,000 shoe covers were made and distributed to theatre and CSSD where they are stored in covered plastic containers to avoid any contamination.

Dirty shoe covers are taken to laundry for laundering. The project is now being extended to cathlab unit where visiting staff will wear reusable shoe covers. Our next innovative idea will be carried out in laundry where reusable laundry bags will replace polythene bags which are used for bagging clean and dirty linen.
